Finding the Key to Unlock your Potential
Our mindset can hold us prisoner and prevent us from achieving our potential.
Carol Dweck's Theory (2006) identifies two types of mindset, fixed and growth mindset. To what extent we have one or the other of these mindsets holds the key to our potential as mindset impacts our reaction to failure, persistance and motivation (Kapasi and Pei, 2022), influences how we think, act and respond (Cooley & Larson, 2018) and triggers automatic responses based on ingrained habits from previous experience (Cohen-Kdoshay & Meiran, 2007).
Mindset shift was the subject of my recent research for my Masters dissertation in 2023 so its a topic which I have explored in great detail. The good news is that mindset can be changed but it requires a growth mindset to overcome automatic responses and will require understanding the goal of change. You need to be prepared to unlearn (Norman, 2022) or 'let go' of ingrained mindsets, beliefs and behaviours (Waters & Riordan, 2023)
